31 October marks World Cities Day, designated by UN General Assembly Resolution 68/239. The day provides an opportunity to promote global interest in urbanization, foster international solidarity in addressing urban challenges, and contribute to sustainable urban development worldwide.

This year’s theme focuses on “People-Centered Smart Cities”, which goes beyond technological advancements and digital innovation. It emphasizes evidence-based decision-making, integrated urban systems, and participatory governance to make cities more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.

SEARO contributed to this global observance through a series of webinars and activities held in collaboration with our Regional Laboratory on Urban Governance for Health and Wellbeing (RL-UGHW) at Chulalongkorn University during September and October 2025. These initiatives aimed to strengthen city capacities in public health preparedness, climate change response, and recovery efforts—promoting healthier, more resilient, and inclusive urban environments.
