Overview
The WHO Data Set for Emergency Care (DSEC) is designed to capture standardized information for all types of emergency care presentations. It integrates injury variables with key emergency care elements such as prehospital time metrics and triage information.
The dataset includes 47 core and 31 extended elements, providing a consistent set of variables to support monitoring, evaluation, and quality improvement in emergency care. Developed through global stakeholder consultation, DSEC is integrated into WHO tools such as standardized clinical forms and the WHO Clinical registry. Its implementation enables more effective aggregation and comparison of emergency care data across hospitals, regions, and countries.
